When aluminum baseball bats first came out, they were the latest and greatest new tool for every successful baseball player's bag.
People expected that aluminum bats would take over every level of play. Today I am going to talk to you about wood baseball bats and why every little leaguer should use one.
I believe that although aluminum baseball bats may be better for a player short-term, wood bats will benefit players in the long run. Woods bats develop great skills such as bat speed, hand-eye coordination, and hitting the baseball on the sweet spot of the bat. For example, say you hit a ball on the end of the bat or on the handle. With wood, the bat would break. With aluminum you could still pull out a base hit.
Another benefit of using wood is when it comes to scouting in high school. Most scouts will take 150 points off your batting average if you are using an aluminum baseball bat. This is simply because of what we talked about above.
Parents, if you get your children to start early with a wood bat, I guarantee you won't be disappointed, and neither will they because it's what the big leaguers use! Try out wood bats. If you absolutely hate them, go back to aluminum, but studies have shown that once you make the transition to wood players like it a lot better.
This is why I believe youth players should use wood baseball bats instead of aluminum. I only used an aluminum bat in college, and look where it has gotten me: all the way to professional baseball!
